Mohawk M1000 is a low-VOC, silane terminated polymer adhesive (designed for use on high moisture slabs) for the installation of Mohawk engineered and acrylic impregnated wood plank, as well as finished and unfinished solid wood flooring and bamboo over properly prepared concrete substrates. Follow NWFA guidelines when installing solid wood flooring directly to concrete substrates. Mohawk M1000 is designed for use over bare concrete substrates only. Do not install over existing VCT, vinyl sheet, plank, tile, or other resilient flooring.
* No moisture or pH testing required when installing engineered plank on concrete substrates above or on-grade. Substrate must be visibly dry with no wetness or standing water.
* For above or on-grade installations of engineered wood flooring, solid wood and bamboo plank, and below-grade installations of engineered flooring only.
Mohawk M1000 may be used on concrete slabs with Relative Humidity (RH) readings up to 95% per the latest version of ASTM F2170 and pH up to 11
Substrate Preparations
For use on concrete substrates at least 60 days old constructed in accordance with ASTM E1745. Do not use this adhesive on concrete slabs with hydrostatic pressure, water intrusion or where visible signs of moisture are present.
Substrates should be structurally sound, well attached, clean, dry and free of existing adhesives, grease, wax, paint, oil, curing or sealing compounds, or any other material that will affect adhesion. Do not use on chemically cleaned substrates. The substrate should be flat within 1/8” over an 8-foot span. Level substrate and fill all cracks, holes and low spots with a polymer modified Portland cement patch or leveling compound.
Burnished or steel-troweled concrete substrates must be inspected for porosity by placing a few drops of water on the surface. If the water is not absorbed within 3 minutes, the substrate should be considered non-porous. Abrade the surface with 30-grit sandpaper until porosity is achieved.
The installation site should be acclimated with HVAC in operation. The floor and room temperature, as well as flooring materials and adhesive, should be maintained at 65°–95° F and the humidity below 65% for 72 hours prior to, during, and after the testing and installation.
Installation
After referring to Mohawk’s layout instructions for expansion space requirements, spread adhesive in a run that is approximately 24” wide or comfortable for your reach. Wear rubber gloves if skin contact may occur. Begin installing wood flooring when adhesive has been spread over a sufficient area. Never spread more adhesive than you can cover in 60 minutes. It is recommended the adhesive be applied by trowel in one direction perpendicular to the wood length.
Working time can be up to 1 hour or longer under prescribed installation temperature and humidity.
Pick up boards periodically during the installation process to ensure proper adhesive transfer.Coverage requirement is 100% for all flooring. Inadequate coverage will void any warranties.
After the flooring is placed, roll the entire installation with a 75 lb. smooth roller.
Clean up with a clean cloth dampened with mineral spirits before the adhesive cures.
Allow the adhesive to cure for 24 hours before allowing foot traffic. Wait 48 hours before moving heavy furniture
Recommended Trowels (Width x Depth x Spacing)
Engineered Flooring, Solid Strip & Planks, Bamboo – 1/4”x1/4”
Saw Tooth Trowel (30-35 sq ft/gal)
When RH is 80% or less on concrete substrates, a 3/16”x 1/4”x1/2”
Flat-V Notch Trowel may be used. (50 sq ft/gal)
Application
*Not for use with foam-backed parquet.
Product Limitations and Application Directives
The adhesive must not be used on wet, frozen, friable or contaminated surfaces. Do not mix this adhesive or add water to it in the pail.
Working Time
Approximately 60 minutes at 70° F and 45% RH
Cure Time
Under ambient conditions of around 70° F and 45% RH, allow the adhesive to set for 24 hours before allowing normal traffic.
Shelf Life
1 year from manufacturing date in an unopened container (store under ambient conditions in a dry area)
